
Amazon is significantly expanding its artificial intelligence ambitions with a new agreement that could see it invest up to $25 billion more into AI startup Anthropic. This builds on the roughly $8 billion Amazon has already committed, marking one of the largest and most aggressive partnerships in the rapidly evolving AI infrastructure space.
The deal is not just about capital. It represents a long-term strategic alignment between Amazon and Anthropic, centered on scaling the computing power required to train and deploy advanced AI systems. As part of the agreement, Anthropic has committed to spending more than $100 billion over the next decade on Amazon Web Services technologies, including Amazon’s custom-built AI chips.
At the heart of this collaboration is Amazon’s Trainium chip ecosystem. Anthropic will rely heavily on current and upcoming generations of Trainium processors to power its Claude family of large language models. The company has already secured access to up to 5 gigawatts of computing capacity, a scale typically associated with entire data center regions. By the end of the year alone, Anthropic expects to bring nearly 1 gigawatt of Trainium2 and Trainium3 capacity online, dramatically increasing its ability to handle growing demand.
The investment structure reflects performance-driven scaling. Amazon is initially deploying $5 billion at Anthropic’s latest valuation of $380 billion, with an additional $20 billion tied to specific commercial milestones. This staged approach allows Amazon to expand its stake as Anthropic continues to grow its enterprise and consumer footprint.
Demand for Anthropic’s AI products has surged rapidly. Its Claude models are now widely used across enterprises, developers, and consumer applications, with annualized revenue surpassing $30 billion.
