Manhunt Intensifies After Fatal Shooting

Authorities are intensifying efforts to identify the suspect responsible for the fatal shooting of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. The FBI has released two grainy photos of a person of interest and announced a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the suspect’s capture.

The images show an individual wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, dark pants, sunglasses, and a hat. Officials are asking the public to assist in identifying the suspect, who appears to be of college age.

Key Evidence Recovered

Law enforcement officials revealed that they have recovered a “high-powered, bolt-action rifle” believed to be the weapon used in the attack. The rifle was found in a wooded area near the university campus where the gunman fled after shooting Kirk.

In addition to the firearm, investigators have collected a footwear impression, a palm print, and forearm imprints for analysis, providing crucial leads in the case. “We’re not sure how far he has gone yet,” said FBI Special Agent Robert Bohls at a press briefing.

Shooting Details

According to Utah Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason, the gunman arrived on campus shortly before noon. He then climbed to a rooftop overlooking Kirk’s event, fired from approximately 200 yards, and struck Kirk in the neck. After the attack, the suspect moved to the other side of the building and fled into a nearby neighborhood.

Mason noted that while officers have “good video footage” of the individual, it has not been publicly released to avoid compromising the ongoing investigation.

Authorities initially detained two people of interest shortly after the shooting but later released them after determining they had no ties to the incident.

Public Response and Presidential Recognition

President Donald Trump announced Kirk’s death, describing him as a “truly Great American Patriot.” During a Sept. 11 observance, Trump confirmed plans to posthumously award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, highlighting the activist’s influence and national prominence.

Ongoing Investigation

The FBI and local law enforcement continue their manhunt, urging anyone with information to come forward. Officials emphasize the urgency, citing the suspect’s ability to blend in with the college environment and the high risk posed by a potential armed individual at large.

With recovered evidence and public cooperation, authorities hope to swiftly identify and apprehend the shooter, bringing closure to a case that has shocked the nation and raised concerns over campus security.
