The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $1.1 billion for Monday’s Labor Day drawing after no ticket matched all six numbers in Saturday’s game. This marks the fifth-largest jackpot in Powerball history, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL).
Saturday’s winning numbers were 3, 18, 22, 27, 33 with a red Powerball 17 and a Power Play multiplier of 3. No one matched all six numbers, extending the jackpot into historic territory.
The odds of hitting the jackpot remain a daunting 1 in 292.2 million, but the staggering prize continues to attract eager players nationwide. The winner can choose between a $1.1 billion annuity or a lump-sum payment of $498.4 million, both before taxes.
If the annuity is selected, the payout is structured over 30 years, starting with an immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year, giving the winner a long-term financial boost.
“America has waited all year for the chance to play for a billion-dollar jackpot,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and CEO of the Iowa Lottery.
Monday’s drawing is the 40th since the jackpot was last won on May 31 in California, highlighting a prolonged streak without a top-tier winner. The largest Powerball prize on record remains the $2.04 billion jackpot won in California on November 7, 2022. The longest streak without a jackpot winner was 42 consecutive drawings in April 2024.
Powerball tickets cost $2 each and are available in 45 U.S. states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. With widespread participation and the massive Labor Day jackpot, this drawing is expected to see record-breaking ticket sales, as players hope to secure a life-changing prize.
The excitement around the $1.1 billion prize is expected to drive millions to purchase tickets, making this Labor Day one of the most eagerly anticipated Powerball events in recent history.
